Job Title: Part-Time School Cook

Hours: Monday - Friday, mornings to early afternoon. Lunch is served at 11:00 AM.

About Us

We are a small, growing private school committed to whole-child education, sustainability, and community. Our campus features an industrial sized kitchen and a school wide commitment to low waste practices. We believe that food is not only nourishment but also an essential part of our learning environment.

As our student body grows (starting at 25 students and projected to expand), we are looking for a passionate, organized, and mission-aligned School Cook to develop and lead our lunch program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and prepare nutritious, whole food based lunch meals, Monday through Friday

  • Source and manage ingredients, with an emphasis on fresh, local, and sustainable options

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and health code compliant kitchen environment

  • Serve meals to students and staff at 11:00 AM daily

  • Clean and sanitize all equipment, tools, and surfaces after each service

  • Manage food inventory and budget efficiently to minimize waste

  • Collaborate with school staff on special events, food-related learning, or seasonal menus

  • Model and support our school’s low waste, sustainability-focused culture

Basic Qualifications

  • Previous cooking experience in a commercial, school, or institutional kitchen

  • Strong understanding of whole foods, balanced nutrition, and allergen-aware meal planning

  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively

  • ServSafe (or equivalent) food safety certification, or willingness to obtain

  • A positive attitude and a genuine interest in being part of a small school community

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with meal planning for children or schools

  • Familiarity with sustainable kitchen practices (e.g., composting, low waste prep)

  • Interest in food education or working alongside children
